June is Pride Month! Because there is so much misunderstood about the LGBTQ+ community, we are doing our part to build a bridge of understanding, love and hope by sharing our experiences over the last 21+ years together. People fear what they don’t know or understand. We ask you to seek understanding first. This episode starts off with powerful words from Rachel Held Evans (Christian Minister and former Evangelical) who we've just gotten acquainted with and also are grieving the loss of_she died at the age of 38 in 2019. She was a straight voice for the LGBTQ+ community and she was making such a difference in the minds of Christians and how they view LGBTQ+ individuals. May her words and wishes live on. If you are a straight ally, this podcast will also give you some insight into what it's like to be LGBTQ+ in 2023. Suffice it to say things were going pretty well, and now the tide is turning again_Not everything ends up on the news. Keeping in mind "queer" isn’t one-size-fits-all, and our perspective is just ours, we’re encouraging you to be brave and ask questions of all of your LGBTQ+ friends, relatives and even strangers to really seek to understand what it’s like to be in their shoes. We (all) have more in common than you think! Love IS the answer. What is the question? â€ïžđŸ§ĄđŸ’›đŸ’šđŸ©”đŸ’™đŸ’œđŸ©·đŸ€ŽđŸ–€đŸ©¶đŸ€â€ïžâ€đŸ©č Thank you! đŸłïžâ€đŸŒˆ Find us at @CCnDoc on social media and at: linktr.ee/ccndoc

With such strong cultural influences, when it comes to our health, what really matters and what should we be focusing on? This podcast delves into our psyches and exposes unhealthy thoughts and behaviors around weight and body image. It’s time we stop self-shaming and shaming others based on unrealistic and cookie-cutter standards! Where do these crazy ideas come from? When CC was feeling her best the scale was up but she had a tumor! They told her not to lose weight during cancer treatment, so she lost 40 pounds! Not on purpose obviously. But, having gone up and down in weight over the years, and finally giving up on the number a few years before; this was quite the mindfuck! So now what happens? Many of us are guilty of watching the scoreboard instead of the game, in this case, watching the scale instead of our life. The numbers on the scale are only one small indicator of good health. We need to be aware of all of the indicators, this is why watching the scale is a mindfuck. Even though Doc weighs more than people would think, she has a reputation as someone who can eat anything she wants and stay slender. But behind the scenes one could say she has an unhealthy relationship with the scale, weighing in each day to make sure the numbers are within her personal acceptable range. When the numbers go up, she’s harder on herself than she should be. She always says she does not want to buy a new wardrobe, which begs the question, is it about money or weight? Of course, it's important to be healthy! It's also important to not feel deprived or to shame yourself into "good behavior". How do we (all) change the way we see ourselves and be in tune enough with our bodies to listen to what they truly need and want on a day-to-day basis, and not be influenced by unrealistic archetypes?  Find us at @CCnDoc on social media and at: linktr.ee/ccndoc

CCnDocTalk_S1/E27_How to Keep Your Sanity During Family Holidays_12/23/2022_Audio Only

Do you love your family yet struggle with how to keep your sanity during family holidays? Family dynamics can be challenging even for the healthiest of families. Add to that the stress of these last few years of politics and pandemic, which have certainly stretched many family relationships thin, not to mention the crazy phenomenon of regression that occurs the moment you get back into your family unit (once the youngest always the youngest), and trying to accommodate so many different opinions, tastes, routines and desires into a seamless and peaceful gathering. One where you don’t go home saying, WTF?!? Or feel guilty until the next year’s vacay. Our conversation is unscripted as always so here are our (aspirational) 8 TIPS for a more sane family holiday vacation in a nutshell: 1. DON’T discuss politics or religion for any reason and be ready to change the subject! We have shirts that say, “Proud Member of the Cocktail Party!” (Available in our CCnDoc Store). This kind of humor diffuses political conversations. 2. DO take time for yourself even if it’s hard to get away! 3. DO be flexible when you can! 4. DO practice mindfulness. Use an app like free Insight Timer to meditate each morning (even 5 minutes can help) before you greet the day and the family at the breakfast table. Eating is also a great time to be mindful. Enjoy every bite, by savoring and chewing your food well, and don’t let the table conversation affect your digestion. 5. DO give genuine compliments and validation freely! 6. DO say please and Thank You even for simple things. 7. DON’T make assumptions whenever possible. Be willing to broach difficult topics with love, compassion and/or humor when possible and seek to understand the other person’s perspective. Unless your opinions on the topic are too strong then
 8. CHOOSE your battles and KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF! Ask yourself what winning this round is worth to you? How important is it if your sister-in-law loads the dishwasher the wrong way as long as the dishes get done and your brother isn’t pissed off at you for the next year? CCnDocTalk_S1/E16_Listen Up! The Art of Listening Well_6/1/2022_Audio Only

Ever wonder why people talk to themselves or their pets? It's because pets are great listeners! We can take lessons from our animals! As executive coaches, we’ve tried to convey the value of listening to others for over 20 years! But how well do we do it in our own relationship? In this podcasts we share our own challenges with listening in our relationship and share some tips and strategies for better listening. People are starving to be heard and for someone to listen to them wholly, unconditionally and without bias or agenda, especially if it’s a loved one. But, our tendency as listeners is to listen just long enough to solve or to interject our own thoughts. People are also in great need of validation and kudos, and part of the listening process is to also acknowledge what you’ve heard them say. This skill is almost as fundamental as listening itself! There are many types of listening. There is surface listening, listening for intent, listening for what’s not there and even whole body listening! In our book Coaching For Commitment Simplified (available at Apple Books) we share five CLEAR Coaching Skills (Challenge, Listen, Encourage, Ask and Refine). Of these, Listen and Encourage are the most important and if you do nothing else, these will go a long way! Sometimes people need to be HEARD and that’s all. As coaches we often refer to ourselves as trusted sounding boards. It’s also ok to ASK the person your listening to what their intent is in sharing. Do they just want to vent? Do they want your advice? Do they want you to ask some questions (coaching) to help them figure out their own stuff? This sets the tone for the conversation and makes it easier for the listener and the person talking! People don’t argue with their own ideas and because of this, listening without an ulterior motive to fix or solve can do wonders for your leadership and your relationships with others! CCnDocTalk_S1/E15_Funny Not Funny_Cancer Treatment Side Effects_Radiation/Chemo_5/21/2022_Audio Only

WARNING: This is a funny yet graphic discussion of the side effects associated with CC’s colorectal cancer treatment. It contains explicit language and is not suitable for all audiences. Not all cancer patient’s experiences will be the same.  Now that CC is officially done with chemo_YAY! And feeling better each day_we can share (with humor) this conversation about CC’s radiation and chemo side effects. Even in the tough moments CCnDoc found humor and were committed to keeping a positive outlook! She got through it and so can you. You are stronger than you know!  CC’s radiation was a new short course IMRT (25 days worth in 5 days) and chemo was Folxfox 6. She had some atypically extreme side effects with radiation which led to a 20 lb weight loss in less than a month. Effective, but not a diet she recommends! She was to do a minimum of 6 and a max of 8 rounds of chemo. The oncologist stopped her at round 7 in order to avoid further neurotoxicity and permanent damage
CC was considered an “under processor” of chemo which is not as it sounds. Her body and especially her neurology did not like it, which means it took longer to process and get out of her system each round. She had some intense and more rare side effects. As she says, “I was luckier than some, unluckier than others.” Some of the symptoms that CC experienced were not typical for many patients, yet some are very common among her peer group, though not always discussed by research papers; and thus communicating these to her oncologist became critical. Our biggest advice: ALWAYS make sure your docs and nurses know your side effects and their severity! Regardless of how rare a side effect is, if you are experiencing it, let them know!
